A Planning and Zoning Commissioner is appointed by the Mayor and affirmed by the City Council. The Commission, acting as a body, is charged with following duties:

Conducting a planning process designed to prepare, implement, review and update a comprehensive plan that includes all lands within the governing board’s jurisdiction;
Holding public hearings prior to recommending changes to the comprehensive plan in a manner provided by law and ordinance;

Providing opportunities for citizen participation in the planning process;
Recommending subdivisions and zoning ordinances amendments;
Recommending a map, a governing plan and ordinances for an area of city impact that is within the unincorporated area of a county;

Preparing a procedure for processing zoning permits, namely: special use permits, rezone applications, planned unit development proposals and variance applications
Recommending the laying out, widening, extending and locating streets for the relief of traffic.

If you are interested in serving on the P/Z Commission, please submit a letter of interest to the City. Any positions that are opened will be considered by the Mayor for fulfillment. If no positions are available, your letter will be kept on file until the next opening becomes available.
